(IFS) Internal Family Systems

As your therapist, I will incorporate the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach in our work together, along with a somatic approach that connects the mind and body. As a Level 2 trained clinician, I have found that IFS has not only made a profound impact in my own life but has also deeply resonated with many clients I've worked with. IFS has been found to make a significant difference in addressing complex trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and depression as well as other health concerns. This approach focuses on understanding and healing the different “parts” within us, allowing for a compassionate and non-judgmental exploration of our internal experiences.

In IFS, we explore the different “parts” within us, each of which often has a protective or adaptive role. By understanding these parts as intentional rather than problematic, we can shift from a perspective of pathology to one of compassion and purpose. Working somatically means that, in addition to exploring thoughts and feelings, we will also tune into physical sensations, breath, and body awareness. This connection between body and mind often provides a deeper, more integrated path to healing.

Each part serves a specific purpose, often formed in response to life events, and these parts may protect, manage, or even exile certain feelings or memories to help us cope. In our work, we will view these parts not as problems but as purposeful adaptations, guiding us toward deeper self-understanding. IFS teaches us that we have an inherent "Self"—a wise, compassionate part of our core—that can lead the healing process, creating an experience of hope and resilience rather than shame or pathology. Together, we will explore this internal landscape, fostering self-acceptance, greater alignment with your values, and the empowerment to redefine your relationship with these parts.

Through our work, it is my hope that you will gain the tools to navigate your inner world with greater self-acceptance, discovering an empowering relationship with your parts that fosters resilience, alignment, and hope.
