IFS Group/ Psychoeducational & Support Groups at Lester Counseling TX

At Lester Counseling TX, we believe in the power of healing together. While individual therapy is wonderful, there's something uniquely transformative about group work—especially when it's virtual, accessible, and deeply supportive.

Our therapy and Psychoeducational/ Interactive groups are designed to help you connect with others, explore your inner world, and grow in meaningful ways. Rooted in practices like Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic approaches, these groups offer a blend of community, emotional processing, and practical tools to support your healing—mind, body, and spirit.

Understanding Group: IFS Approach in Group

Group can take many forms, each offering unique benefits and approaches to healing and personal growth. Two common types are groups utilizing the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach and process groups. While both can be effective, they differ significantly in structure, focus, and therapeutic goals.

IFS Group Therapy

In an IFS group therapy setting, the focus is on exploring the different "parts" within each participant. IFS, developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, is based on the understanding that we all have various internal parts that influence our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The group provides a safe space for individuals to identify and engage with these parts, fostering self-awareness and healing.

What to Expect in an IFS Group:

  • Part Exploration: Participants may share experiences related to specific parts they identify, such as the inner critic, the nurturing part, or parts that hold pain from past trauma. This exploration helps individuals understand their internal landscape.
  • Somatic Awareness: The group may incorporate somatic techniques to help members connect with their bodies and recognize how different parts manifest physically.
  • Supportive Feedback: Participants can offer reflections and insights on each other's parts, which can enhance understanding and empathy.
  • Facilitated Exercises: The therapist may guide members through exercises that encourage dialogue between their parts, allowing for healing conversations and increased integration.

The IFS group model promotes a collaborative atmosphere where participants not only work on their own healing but also learn from the experiences of others, deepening their understanding of the self and the shared human experience.
