Neurodynamic Breathwork (NDB)

Scientific Support for Breathwork

While breathwork has been practiced for centuries, modern science continues to validate its benefits. Studies have shown that intentional breathing techniques can:

  • Lower blood pressure (as demonstrated in a study published in Nature)
  • Reduce pain and nausea (Western Michigan University, 2019)
  • Activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation, digestion, and immune function (ScienceDirect)

Breathwork is also a powerful tool for mental health. Dr. Ela Manga, an expert in breath-based healing, explains:

“Every breath we take mirrors our conscious and unconscious thoughts, emotions, feelings, and sensations. Observing our breathing patterns is the key to understanding mental and emotional fluctuations.”

By working directly with the breath, we bypass the mind’s limitations and access the body’s innate intelligence—allowing suppressed emotions, trauma, and stagnant energy to be released.

As your therapist, I integrate various healing modalities into our work, including breathwork. I am a certified Neurodynamic Breathwork (NDB) and Pause Breathwork (PBW) facilitator. These two practices have unique approaches are that utilize altered states of consciousness or expanded states of awareness for therapeutic exploration. Holotropic Breathwork, developed by Stanislav Grof, is a pioneering method that facilitates deep healing experiences, often compared to the effects of psychedelics. While Neurodynamic Breathwork and Pause Breathwork are not as intensive as Holotropic Breathwork, they both offer a powerful way to access expanded states of awareness without the use of substances. Research has shown that breathwork can significantly enhance mental well-being by reducing stress, releasing emotional blocks, and fostering greater clarity and resilience. What is Neuro-dynamic Breathwork?

N stands for Non-directive approach, unlike other breathwork approaches, the NDB faciliator does not talk or guide the participants once the breathwork session begins. "It is all guided from within your own being."

E stands for Empowerment. "This modality is based on the principle of Radical Self Empowerment, of looking inside for the answers in you need instead of into the outside world."

U stands for Unconscious Blockages- "Most of the things that are keeping us from manifesting the life we want are stored in our unconscious. Neurodynamic Breathwork workshops allow direct access to the unconscious mind where we can become aware of our unconscoius blockages, outdated thinking patterns and conditioning and bring them to consciousness for healing."

O stands for Organic- "This is an Organic process. During a NDB session, there is no use of substances, or anything unnatural. All you need is the healing power of the breath and music."

Why Dynamic? "Dynamic music is a necessary component of a NeuroDynamic Breathwork session and, combined with the breath, stimulates a deep dive into our inner world and unconscious mind. Also, Dynamic has its origins in the Greek word dynamis, "force, power," and one of the goals of NDB is to allow people to feel more empowered by reclaiming the power that is their birthright."

Pause Breathwork Facilitator

What drew me to become a Pause Breathwork Facilitator. To provide more healing and deeper connections through a trauma informed method, I believe that I found a good fit in the method that can support me as a mental health provider and the clients I work with. The method is more than just a certification, this program is an immersive personal growth experience, helping you embody the power of breathwork while learning to guide others through profound healing.

This training goes beyond traditional cognitive (mind-based) therapy, diving into somatic (body-based) healing, where true transformation takes place. Neurodynamic Breathwork vs. Pause Breathwork: Key Differences

While both Neurodynamic Breathwork (NDB) and Pause Breathwork (PBW) use conscious breathing to facilitate emotional release and self-exploration, they differ in their approach and structure.

NDB is a self-guided, music-driven practice designed to activate altered states of consciousness for deep inner work, similar to Holotropic Breathwork. It emphasizes autonomy, allowing participants to process emotions and insights independently, without facilitator intervention.

PBW, on the other hand, is a facilitated, trauma-aware modality that prioritizes nervous system regulation and emotional integration. Rooted in a structured yet intuitive approach, PBW sessions create a safe, guided experience, helping participants work through emotions with intentional support.

Both modalities offer profound healing benefits, but NDB is more self-directed and expansive, while PBW provides a grounded, facilitator-led experience with a focus on safety and integration.

Why Breathwork?

Breathwork: The Gateway to Deep Healing

Breathwork is a powerful healing tool that goes beyond relaxation. While many breathing practices focus on calming the nervous system, Pause Breathwork is designed for deep emotional release, energetic clearing, and self-discovery. By using intentional breath patterns, combined with music and movement, we access altered states of consciousness where profound transformation occurs.

Much like yoga and nutrition nourish the body, breathwork nourishes the soul, offering a direct path to emotional resilience, stress relief, and inner peace.

Benefits of Regular Breathwork Practice

Through consistent practice, breathwork can lead to:

Greater self-awareness and emotional intelligence ✅ Processing trauma and releasing suppressed emotions ✅ Reduced stress, anxiety, and overwhelmImproved self-confidence and self-esteem ✅ Heightened joy, creativity, and clarityStronger immunity and overall well-being

Even without extensive long-term studies, the sheer volume of personal testimonials and real-life transformations makes breathwork an undeniable force for healing.

How Breathwork Boosts Immunity

In our modern world, where stress levels are at an all-time high, strengthening the immune system is crucial. Research suggests that rhythmic breathing techniques can regulate the nervous system, lower stress hormones, and enhance immune function. When we breathe deeply and intentionally, we signal safety to the body, shifting from fight-or-flight into rest and restore mode, where true healing happens.

Breathwork: Your Personal Healing Tool

Breathwork is an invitation to step into your power—to breathe with intention, release what no longer serves you, and embrace the healing process. It’s an ever-accessible practice that reconnects you with yourself, offering clarity, emotional release, and inner peace.

If you’re ready to experience the transformational effects of breathwork, whether for personal healing or as a trained facilitator, Pause Breathwork is here to guide you every step of the way!
